Plagiargism? I shall try to avoid it
I keep a journal of quotes, witty sayings and profound thoughts that I hear, read or actually create from my own thinking. Often while reading a book, magazine or greeting card etc I will jot down what I think are interesting phrases or facts.
Seldom do I take the time to jot down the author or who to credit with it. Bits and pieces of paper litter my desk. My journal is stuffed to overflowing with cards and papers as they wait for the day and the time I will organize everything for my own enjoyment later. Among all these things I have little notes about things I want to research like someone on tv saying "Kathy Griffin is the Will Rogers of our time." I thought,"who is this Kathy Griffin?" I know who Will Rogers was, a humorous, social and political commentator and rodeo movie star of the 20's and 30'. Sounds like someone we need now". A quote from Wikipedia says" his clean moral tone lead various schools to take classes to see his movies." Oh how I wish I had credited the author of "Kathy Griffin being the Will Rogers of our time". When someone makes comparisons like this just how knowledgeable could he possibly be in anything else? I know who she is now, in case you do not know who she is just think 'as different from Will Rogers as night is from day.' If you do not know of her then you will not like her performances, believe me. What an outlandish comparison.
With that in mind I am trying to be more careful as I hurriedly jot down a phrase I like and really try to credit the source....and either to follow further that source or to run run as fast as I can from it. So not plagiarizing has value doesn't it?
Do you keep a journal? I actually call mine a 'sorta' journal'.

I also write down stuff wherever I go. I have lots of paper on my desk. At least you keep them in a note book.
@Mal_P - Thanks for the comment but sometimes it takes weeks before anything gets added to the journal LOL
I used to just keep a spiral notebook for writing down notes and ideas. But, since the tornado, I haven't done that. I've been in the habit of using scrap pieces of mail to write things down. It's a ridiculous system for someone as ocd as me. Time for a notebook.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - When I clean up my desk of all these notes on scraps of paper or things torn hurriedly out of magazines i tend to stuff them into my sorta' journal where they may hid for months LOL.
No, I don't keep a journal but I do have a lot of journals filled with empty pages. I do know who Kathy Griffin is and must say her humor does not appeal to me. Not even close to Will Rogers in any way I can see!
I lose more "jot downs" than I can count.
I know as much about Kathy Griffin as I want to, and every time something comes on TV that she is in, I either change the channel or turn it off.! The person that made that comment about 'comparing her to 'our' (Oklahoma's) Will Rogers, surely made the biggest mistake of their life!. Yes, scraps of paper with notes, in every nearby drawer, and a stack by the telephone.
As you already know, I DO keep a journal....on a CD-RW, so I can just keep adding to it. And the sort of things you mentioned.....I have a CD-RW that I keep just that sort of thing. Just pop it in your C D on your computer, and just keep adding more, as they become available.
Have one for my diary, one for the music I've used in different churches, one for addresses, one for telephone numbers, one for e-mail addresses, one for birthdays and anniversaries, and etc.
@SewWorthIt - I think the commentator was a red headed guy named Conan....A talk show man. We do not have tv and no cable or antenna. We watch Netflix and through our Roku player get network news and some tv programming and we see the internet news.We are so out of the loop as to who is who and that's the way we like it. Will Rogers was quite the entertainer and his son Will Rogers JR followed along in his footsteps pretty good.
@GrannyHummingbird - Oh Wow you are up to date aren't you! I should do that. I do archive all my Xanga posts. Maybe I need to do as you do, it would be such a help in finding things.
I write down phrases or quotes that I like from books, magazines or even while watching TV. I also take down recommendation of places like restaurants, book reviews, interesting places to go when I travel phone. I store them all on my iphone "Notes".
Yes I do and it is usually for things that hit me emotionally during the day that I need to sort out in the written word, and memories.
@icepearlz - YOu are far more efficient than I@Grannys_Place - but you are inspiring me to get mine organized, thanks for the comment.A good idea, it can really help to organize one's thinking.
I have journals of quotes I like and I write them with a calligraphy pen. I started it just to practice my calligraphy but it has become much more than that. I do write down authors when I have them. I like the idea of noting things like trips, etc. and think I'll start doing that too. Good post, my dear, I like it a lot. Peace
@shellisland - My sister Dominie does beautiful calligraphy, I have dabbled in it and do love it. How nice it must be to have your journal written in beautiful script.
@Lucy_or_Ethel - Penmanship is somewhat of a thing of the past but I appreciate it. It's definitely an art. I would love to see Dominie's. Peace
hehe. no. I xanga!
sorta of -you know mine is more of a cut out quotes and pictures from real life or from magazines. I have a journal for my girlfriend; she gave me a journal and I write about her in it. lol I will give it to her when I fill it up.
who would ever compare Kathy Griffin to Will Rogers? she has certainly met many many people she does not like.
Will Rogers was funny without being offensive. Except that they both perform, there is no comparison at all.
PS just found you and I like your writings.
