Controversial....Extreme.....Unpopular....Racist..
Okay not controversial at all, certainly not extreme nor unpopular or racist, just been listening to so many news casts that I felt I had to elaborate some "key" words to get your attention and maybe bend your thinking some what like the media does.
~~~~~
Last week I had my left eye cataract surgery done. We drove the 100 mile trip so easily with our new GPS, in fact so easy that we arrived nearly an hour early for my appointment. We usually get lost but Fritz takes direction far better from the automated voice of the GPS than he does from Lucy's voice.
Des Moines Lutheran Hospital, what a nice older building, built in 1945 and maintained beautifully. Very pleasant place with excellent staff. Fritz and I were very impressed. After the procedure our nurse even made a fresh pot of decaf for me and served it with just the right amount of cream, now that is service!
Several hours later we had to meet the surgeon at his office so he could check my eye before we headed home.
His office is right by the beautiful Iowa State Capitol building so I blindly(literally) snapped this shot. Normally I use my left eye through the view finder with this camera so this actually turned out pretty good using my right eye.
The Iowa flag and US flag looked so nice as a rain storm approached I managed to stumble around to get this shot.
Here's the scary picture......Are you ready? My face was bruised from the surgery and remains bruised like a black eye. Also unable to wear my much needed eye make up and should avoid getting water in my eye while washing my hair. I find it easier to let my hair go until I want to "be careful".
Beware the following picture is rated PG for horror:
Other than looking scary I am doing very well and my vision is sharp and clear. Glasses only for reading small print.
I'd like to think this is the real"me" at least it is the pre-op me.
What have you been doing as you see summer dancing it's last dance of the season?
I missed your last posting, so I am going to try to be the first on this one!
I did it! Now to be the second one, too. I am glad that you can see clearly -- the bruising and the swelling will pass, and you will be your usual beautiful self. The "before" picture will serve me just fine until I see the "new and improved and HEALED" edition.
I'm so happy for you that this is behind you. It truly gave my mom a new lease on life. I'll let Sue Kauffman tell you all about hers -- she had to postpone one, I think, because she was PREGNANT!
@Buckeyegirlie - LOL At least I didn't(don't) have what was Sue's concern.LOL
Great post and love the pictures! I no your glade the surgery is over!!!! Have a good week!!!
I agree with buckeyegirlie - you will soon be your own beautiful self.
You look pretty in purple..just wear sun glasses and no one will notice any difference. The bruising shouldn't last too long. Great shot of the capital building...
@dingdongdingbat - @cerwindoris - Thanks for the comments and the compliments. I am glad this is over and WOW my vision is so clear and sharp!!!Fritz had brougth home a gallon of milk and poured a glass. He bought it somewhere I never had been to and I said,"my that milk looks so white and rich not like the brand I usually get!" Then we realized I was no longer seeing it through my yellowish cataract vision. LOL
so glad you came through the surgery with just a black eye ... they could have "sneezed" and nipped your nose!! haha i'm an au naturel kinda girl and don't mind the no makeup ... i see through the exterior (i have x-ray vision) to the real stuff beneath! muah ...
I'm glad you came through your surgery well. healing alright?
@ofunlo - Had it done Friday and so far it has gone very well. My vision is really great now, hurray!@windupherskirt - The dr. told me if i had to sneeze or cough to let him nknow so he could stop a moment...yikes I was awake through out......would rather have been unaware like with the right eye. Denise I wear make up in the hopes it covers what is inside me LOL you know like painting a smile on my face LOL. btw,I wear my lovely necklace so often,always get compliments on how pretty it it!
I would let my hair go too, glad that all is well and your vision is better! I've always thought the shades of black and blue were at least pretty hues.
@seedsower - In the right places blacks and blues can be lovely! Mine is turning a little burgundy and green now, also a nice combo LOL
@Lucy_or_Ethel - i've heard it called it "war paint"! bwahaha ... i'm honored that you are enjoying your necklace and others like it too!
Glad your surgery went well. In all the hubbub here I had missed it. Not much of a friend am I? Know you will love it once you can be you again.
@TheSunnyC - You folks have had plenty of "hubbub" yourselves haven't you! I hope each day your Wil feels much better.
I love that bottom picture. I have actually been to the Des Moines Capitol building! I got to Iowa every year or so for work and one year my husband came with me and we drove into Des Moines to look around. Really enjoyed it. Especially the botanical gardens and river walk.
Hope your seeing clear as a bell today!
OMG well, you'll be able to see better anyway,right? My eye dr. said that I just have a freckle which he said is the beginning of a catarac.
So glad the surgery was successful! (the photo wasn't that scary!)
@tracy - So far my vision is wonderfully clear and bright. So you know DM ? It is a lovely city. The dome of the capitol is 23 K gold leaf. Thank you for your comment.
@murisopsis - Thanks!
Great pictures, and I Too, love the last one. That's a picture of a pretty lady, indeed!!
Even though that surgery has become very common, it's WONDERFUL to have it behind you!!! I remember, when I was very young, we went to see a man who had had cataract surgery, and they had sandbags at the sides of his head so he couldn't turn it, lying flat on his back. We've come a long way, Baby!!! (o;
I am glad that your surgery went well, ryc, yes, what a mess that is left to clean up!
you are lovely~ even with a black eye.
so glad the surgery went well~
we've been trying to be OUTSIDE as much as possible as summer's door is swinging shut!!
Love these photos and sure hope you heal up quick. Looks sore. We took the day off from packing to move today and went and walked in the ocean.
@GrannyHummingbird - When my mother had her cataract surgery in the 1970's she was not allowed to raise her head from her pillow for 10 days. Yes indeed we've come a long way for sure. It is so commonly done but still can have complications. For my right eye I was totally unaware during the procedure for this one I was only "very relaxed physically"...LOL hardly relaxed mentally I assure you. I'd have preferred to be unaware. Thank you for your comment.
@Hutch5 - Thank you. Love your phrase "summer's door is swinging shut".
@Grannys_Place - Wish I could walk in the ocean with you, I long to return to the beach.
So glad your surgery was successful. Being able to see clearly is a wonderful gift!
@ColeenSr - Thank you, yes it is a blessing to be able to see clearly.
I love a GPS system
Hurrah!! This surgery was a big success! I am so happy for you! A black eye is unusual following the surgery, but it is a good reminder to be careful.
I have quit watching the news (again)! I am so much more peaceful when I don't. I still read some but choose my unbiased sources.
@Dominie - If only they reported "just the facts". In my not so humble opinion some of these people act like rabid dogs as they interview those who dare think differently than they do. I noticed over and over the descriptive word,"unapologetic" book of the former vice president's book.....What??? The bias is so blatant it certainly damages the little credibility if any that remains with them. These media people count it as major news about that singer being pregnant.......even compared it the Prince William getting married. I do not know what circles these people live in but most of America are more concerned about the economy, illegal immigration, and the moral decline of our nation than the nonsense they call the "top news". Let's hear what damage from this storm is covered by insurance. Most people do not have flood insurance....but would be insured for the wind damage...let's hear how this flooding damage will or will not be covered and this may raise the rates for insurance for Joe Q Public. .....things that would actually touch lives. Who needs comedy when the network news is available?
Any response to this, my reply to Dominie, that uses cussing or profanity will be deleted. I am narrow minded and judgmental like that.LOL
@Dominie - Thank you for the sweet card! It brightened my day!
Glad you came through surgery OK. Missed a few days in your life.
But, one of these days I'll catch up, maybe. I would not classify that picture as horrible either. I look pretty scary sometimes too!
The golden dome looks a little like one we drive by in Atlanta on the way to Florida. I wonder if they're related? Have a great week and God bless you with a speedy recovery.
It was always a thrill as a kid to spot that gold dome of the capitol building in DM. Thanks for sharing your experience. I think you look pretty spunky with a shiner. Very formidable! I wish you a speedy recovery. I took my national certification exam on Monday. I must now wait for my scores and I have all sorts of gloom and doom scenarios about my performance. I should find out tomorrow, and if not, then Sept. 14. I am looking forward to having my life back from the test prep. I will begin updating my site again this week. I have felt like my life was suspended this summer with the exam and job hunting as my main focus. I'm glad your surgery was a success!
Glad your surgery is over and was successful! Your pix are always so good....love how you can make a potentially painful experience into a positive one!
@mrs_magoo414 - How very nice you had the time to comment! I do hope you do not have to wait until the 14th to get the exam results. You probably did very very well and all the doom and gloom is uncalled for. Eager to have you back to updating, I want to know about your job, family and how things are going for you! Pictures would be nice also LOL. I think of you so often and glad you have surfaced!
@AmericanJanet - Thanks for your nice comment.
