  • Iowa The Beautiful Land

    The hills and trees

    the corn ready for harvest, the sunrise making the tassels to glow golden

    the beans dry also ready for harvest

    Across from our home the corn crop looks great, one large fully filled out ear of corn on each stalk

    I hope to get closer to this barn and get more pictures of it soon.

    ~~~~~~
    As I made this entry in my journal today,"I can not remember ever being more content or happier than I am today" I checked back to last year's journal entry that said,"I can not remember ever being more content or any happier than I am today". Either Lucy is easily pleased or life is good for little Lucy most of the time. All these troubling events in our country and the unrest many people are feeling make me praise the Lord because I know He is in control. The examples of unintended humor of many in our society make me laugh. The so called 'tolerant' who will not tolerate opinions they do not agree with and those who applaud  the 'hate crimes' and 'hate speech laws' often are the loudest in laughing and calling others name and poking fun at those they disagree with. All this while touting the virtues of being 'non-judgmental'. Like I say unintended humor is the best! Two things are very sad, losing a sense of humor and the greater sorrow, having no faith in God as if mere man is the highest power.
  • lovely pictures!! It is truly a gift to be able to say you're content. You encourage me with it :)
  • @Tempguestbrief - Thank you for your sweet comment.
  • you are doing well-I'm mad at 3 people right now but I'm trying to learn from my anger. It means that someone has stepped over my boundries; either they or I am having a bad day, or maybe they're just mean people.
    join the church pray group, get a booth at the local antique mall and a little partime job with your hubby and you can be angry,too
    you know I'm teasing you but then not really!
  • Iowa looks a lot like Indiana. I am content most of the time too. Knowing God is in control makes a big difference.
  • How wonderful to be so content -- how interesting that you wrote the same thing in your journal on the same day a year apart!
  • Oh, yes, and I love your photos -- that barn is wonderful!
  • It's looking a lot like that here too. Maybe more splashes of color. However, due to the major flooding, the trees seem to be dropping leaves before they change. And...it is STILL raining. More flash floods for today and tonight, sadly, on top of all that people have lost in the past three weeks. It is good to be content, and know that God is still in control even when life it out of control. Deep within the heart is where true contentedness lives. I'm happy to say the same. Amidst the personal losses, amidst the chaos in our world, amidst the heartbreaks, I am content as well.
    Have a great Thursday afternoon and evening. P.S. I've not yet put my flip flops away for the year. In fact, I even managed to find some CROCS flip flops and I'm tempted to wear them through the winter. Though I am thinking that might be a bit "out there" since we get so much snow and below 20 degree temps.
  • I have never been to Iowa. Beautiful pictures. I must say, it is fabulous to be content with yourself.
  • @Babyboomerjill - Sometimes being angry is not a bad thing Jill. But it is nice you can narrow it down to just 3 people you are angry with....I am afraid my list might be much longer LOL Thanks for your comment.
  • @ata_grandma - It is only when I forget that God is in control that I get frightened. That's the way us humans are isn't it?
  • @slmret - thank you for your comment. Evidently the autumn season brings out the same seasonal emotions...actually not the exact day but close to it.
  • @MadraysGarden -  Thanks for your comment. The other day it was quite chilly and damp when I left the house early that morning so I dug out a pair of Mary Jane type shoes. Oh wow I wore them all day and got such blisters from them my heels still have scabs!! All summer I wore flip flops or my high heel slides, never full shoes! I had a pair of flip flops that had a fur lining years ago and I wore them out, I loved them and then bought some fur lined sandals that didn't go between my toes and with my heavy socks they did me for the winter...until the snow got too deep LOL. Jan we are kindred spirits!
  • @Mal_P - Thanks for the comment. Some days are easier than others to be content right?
  • Contentment is an amazing place to be! And with it comes joy and peace and security. Such deep emotions that I think ONLY come from God. I'm so glad to hear you are content! I am a content person, too. I've always just believed God is in control...no matter who is in Washington...what is going on in the world...what the future holds, etc. And I live my life to try to serve others, hoping to make their lives a bit better. I do a LOT of volunteer work. I feel I have so much to be thankful for, so I try to give back.
    Your photos are so so SO lovely! The Mid-west is such a beautiful part of the country! I hope you are able to take more photos of that barn!
    HUGS!
  • @AdamsWomanFell - thank you for the very sweet comments. I plan to get permission to tramp around that old barn soon to take more photos of it. I zoomed in from a distance to capture the one I posted.
  • @Mal_P - I have a little black cat too, named Jack. I notice a "necklace" on yours. Gosh I wish I could put one on all six of our cats...and sometimes string them together so they can torture each other instead of me. (lolol...ok, just kidding. Don't want any PETA people hunting me down)
    @Lucy_or_Ethel - yes we are. I will wear my summer crocs all winter. Boots are for shoveling snow (which, if you remember, always gets me into trouble) or blizzards. Well, we shall see what this winter brings. I might be able to wear my flip flops, maybe not. Either way, there'll be pictures I'm sure.
  • The Midwest is beautiful country. Life - for all its trials is still the best thing going.
  • @murisopsis - I agree, thank you for your comment.
  • beautiful photos. I'd like to see the corn .. not many farm corn around here. too dry. and that barn would be a good place to investigate!
    I've noticed the same thing - the meanness and intolerance of those preaching tolerance. all one can really do is be open to truth and continue to love, especially love those who are difficult to love. otherwise, it's not love.
  • I read a comment recently that said,  'Being angry at someone without forgiving them,  just allows that person to occupy  your mind without paying rent' !
    Blessings!
  • @Lucy_or_Ethel - I often say that if you like everyone you're not interacting with others enough. lol love you!
  • @SewWorthIt - yes, I  have heard that too and I'm fixing to evict 3 people myself.
     I am trying to learn what these 3 have said to me to bring  up such anger cause I realize that it's not really them but something from my past that caused me pain and sadness that I didnt' deal with and now this has just congured it up again.
     I'm going to learn from this and not let it "eat my lunch" as a friend of mine says.
    thanks for your comment and I love you.
  • I am so happy you are content.  This is the goal for us all : To feel joy in the beauty around us and happy with the ones we love.
  •  Suxh beauty and bounty ! Yes we have to be grateful .
    Love
    Michel
    ps : I commented your previous post.Thanks
  • @fauquet - Thank you Michel. It is always good to get a comment from you. You are very sweet!
  • @ofunlo - Thank you for your comment. We have much corn and beans here. We live right on the rich river bottom land area. Harvest began here yesterday. As everyone began at the same time, the weather forecast says it will be nice weather for several days so the sense of urgency is in full swing.I never thought of this in this way,"
    especially love those who are difficult to love. otherwise, it's not love." Very good thinking, thank you for that phrase.
  • @SewWorthIt - I love that! Guess I have some evicting to do since it is clear the back rent will never be paid! Thanks!
  • @Babyboomerjill -  I like that phrase,"if you like everyone you're not interacting with others enough" so very true but yet very funny! Thank you my friend!
  • @fauquet - And thank you for the mini, so nice of you!
  • Those rolling hills of home........that came to mind immediately when I saw your beautiful pictures! There was a beautiful old barn on the way to uncle Wink and Aunt Dorothy's! We begged Sara to stop so Linnea and I could get a picture. I've got to enlarge that and frame it! Another thing to add to my "to Do" list!
  • @Calif_Cuz - I shall be eager to see that barn photo. Thank you for your comment!
  • @Lucy_or_Ethel - I usually say,"you're not going to church enough." lol
  • I will have to show my husband these beautiful pics of his native land, he will so enjoy them!
    Sadly, some are not as non-judgmental as they claim. They are just the other extreme.
    I am so happy you are happy, not many in this world know this beauty of savoring what surrounds them and letting love make them beautiful. You have captured beauty and happiness well!
  • @WildWomanOfTheWest - Thank you for your sweet comments. What part of Iowa is MM from?
  • @Lucy_or_Ethel -  Northeast corner, Estherville.
  • @MadraysGarden - LOL! I am glad I managed to put this collar on Coco, and she took it. First time she bit it and broke two collars. This is the third one.
  • Reminds me of John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
  • The pictures look so peaceful.
  • You are surrounded by beauty where you are at and to be content is a blessing of acceptance to life and living.
  • loverly photos of our heartland ... the fields that feed the world!! a day without laughter is not finished ...
  • such beautiful pics Nancy!
  • It's so wonderful that you are happy and content. You are truly blessed.
  • @LoBornlytesThoughtPalace -  Thanks for your comment. It is not always sunshine and roses around here but life is good.
  • @windupherskirt - I have a sign in my office that says "a good laugh is sunshine in a house". Thanks for oyur comment.
  • @andreas_d - Thank you for your comment.
