What an unexpected beautiful sight.............
I have permission to walk in these woods so with my camera I sought out a Kodak moment. Through the trees and brush I saw this ahead of me. Looking like some kind of building among the trees

Growing closer to it I saw it was a shed of some kind

But what is that thing on top? An old cupola?

Oh wow!

And more wow!

And even more wow. Not only an old cupola but one in amazing shape, ornate and with a great weather vane atop an old shed.

I love nature pictures. Love the trees, clouds, sunsets etc but this man made item is also very stunning to me and a grand surprise to see.
One of life's little pleasures to stumble upon such a beautiful thing!

Thanks for sharing the journey, the joy and the beauty! Enjoyed visiting here today. Blessings, Colleen
@Abiding_Love - Thank you, come back anytime!
oh wow is right ... that is one gorgeous cupola!! so glad you stumbled upon it!! wow!!
Someone loved that building and took great pains to make it beautiful (probably either made the weather vane personnally or paid a pretty penny for it). Very nice discovery and great photos!
Wow! is the word. How special to just come upon it, too!
Surprises are so much fun, glad you had a good one here....Thanks, glad you enjoyed the Friday Funnies
that last picture is very cool. the whole photo story is great. serendipity is fun.
@windupherskirt - Thanks for the comment, it is beautiful isn't it!@murisopsis - This shed is simply a hodge podge of metal siding of various sorts put together to make a shed maybe simply for this wonderful cupola to be the crowning glory.@Dominie - From the other side of this shed this cupola is easily visible but from where I 1st saw it was pretty well hidden. Such a nice surprise. Thaks for you comment.
@ThexGodfather - @promisesunshine - Thank you for the comments!
OH, my, what a wonderful surprise! Not just the cupola, but the whole shed! Is it on a farm? And did you have any inkling that it was there?
@slmret - No idea it was there. From my view, from the road it didn't show through the trees until I snapped the 1st shot. Not hidden when approached from the other side. certainly something the owner enjoys daily from his house windows. He has many sheds he has made from old wood, metal and some entirely from glass windows he buys at auctions
How interesting -- and what a fascinating person he must be, too!
@slmret - Indeed and a very nice man.
That must have been a wow moment. Do you know the history of the building?
We see them in Iowa and you are right they are WOW!
Something different. Thanks for sharing
@slmret - I love your reaction -- oh, wow, and more wow! What a fun walk that was!
@Lucy_or_Ethel - very different and beautiful ... i've been out and about the backwoods many times and saw very few cupolas ...
@dingdongdingbat - The cupola had to have added after the shed was constructed. It is a hodge podge building made of whatever he had on hand. Makes this cupola even more stunnng to me, rather out of place for the building it graces. Thank you for your comment.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - thank you for the comment. Because this was so unexpected made it even more beautiful to me.
neat -I like rust
I love old rusty treasures, good find!
Is he using the old shed for anything? I know you said that he makes these hodgepodge sorts of sheds, but what is his business? The photography is really neat; I love the contrasts and that last picture is really impressive.
I do have to wonder, though, what Fritz thinks. If this was Certain Man and His Wife, I'm pretty sure that CM would be singularly unimpressed with the dilapidated old sheds. I can almost hear him say, "What that thing needs is a can of gas and a match!" Does your husband share your fascination? Daniel would love the cupola and the old weather vane but he would never be able to understand why someone would have such disarray and disrepair.
@Buckeyegirlie - Fritz thinks it is very junkie! And no, he does not like it. This fellow is retired and goes to auctions and piles things and makes these buildings to house his treasures. Glad you liked the photos.
@Babyboomerjill - @WildWomanOfTheWest - To see this complete cupola in such good shape and so ornate placed where it is really amazes me. Several times I've seen old more rusty ones than this. placed in flower beds, among the flowers and vines I think they are great garden art. If I had it I'd have it placed on the roof of our barn or in none of my larger flower beds.
you find the coolest things, lucy!
i want to go on a walk with you.
@grace_to_be - Thank you, maybe sometime that can happen.
How cool is that! A happy surprise for sure and I'm glad you shared it. Peace
@shellisland - thanks for the comment.
