Where's The Sun?
In this area we have many old barns and abandoned houses. Because many of these old barns remain on inhabited farms I try to contact the owners for permission to photograph on their property. For a number of reasons I do that, one is for my own safety so I do not fall into open wells or meet up with a raging bull and also I know how I'd feel if I looked out my kitchen window to see someone traipsing around our place without permission.
Because of this rule of mine I have slowly gained a list of places where the owners have okay-ed my being on their property. I have a dozen or so places in my little notebook. Now all I need is a bright sunny day.
Meanwhile here is a shot of one of my very favorite things.

This charming little pump was a find my husband thought I'd like. He placed it so it looked to be over a well. I like it muchly!
The sun is now shining so I'm off to see if I can get a few barn shots. It is 37 degrees here at the moment.
How is it where you are?

An old pump. You certainly aren't hard to please.
love that old pump ... I have one over the well at my place ... hope you have a crisp sunny day to go foto safari'ing ... it is sunny here and warmer than it looks ... it may not last for long!!
26* this morning, but sunny and bright and no wind! - You have a nice husband!
@homealivein45 - Yes,I am easy....LOL I mean an easy keeper LOL
@windupherskirt - Thanks for the comment. It looks like a great day to be out and about....wonder where I put my gloves?
@mlbncsga - My Fritz is a keeper for sure!
@Lucy_or_Ethel - as my daddy used to tell me ... wherever you put them last! bwahahahaha
@windupherskirt - LOL Found them and your Daddy was right! LOL
@Lucy_or_Ethel - haha ... [smiling real big] ... my gloves get "lost" too!
We have a pump just like that, we've done the same thing with, at the other house. It's outside the porch, and looks as if it's there for a real reason. (o; Since we had no electricity, pumping water, with one of those, was one of my chores, as a child. We had this big long galvanized 'horse tank', for the cows and horses, that I had to pump full every day.
What cool old pump!

Yay for a sunny day! It's cold snowy/rainy here today! But the sun is shining in my heart!
HUGS!
Love the old pump!
Fifty-five and sunny at the moment, here in my part of Oklahoma.
We had a pitcher pump stolen off an old well on our place right after we bought it. We still have several though and one of the newer tank type models on our back deck over 2 old cisterns that would still work if we wanted to use them. We have hazy sun today.
Temperature is dropping here.
@GrannyHummingbird - Must have been healthy for us to pump water don't you think? We had a pump here that we used to water a few head of cattle. Our 3 kids were in charge of hand pumping the tank full. How mean was that? Doing just what I had done as a kid...but as soon as all 3 were grown and out of the house we had a water line run to the tank LOL no more hand pumping if I was the only one to do it LOL. We also got our 1st riding lawn mower when the kids left home LOL We believed in utilizing available man power.
@AdamsWomanFell - @WildWomanOfTheWest - The sun was out most of today and I went out and about with my camera and had a great time! Thanks for your comments.
@TheSunnyC - Snow is in our forecast but today has been nice.
@Randy7777 - I think cold weather is heading to our part of Iowa for this weekend. Stay warm! Thanks for your comment.
We have a pump like that too . Placed it in a bed so it also looks ready to use. Have two short 'cistern' pumps on the front porch.. Strange what we could not wait to get away from as youngsters , now becomes a valued memory.
How cool is that..I can remember using one of those. Not at my home but somewhere. The guys use a pump for water at the hunting camp. Personally I have never gone into the pump house...there is no telling what may be lurking in there!
It was a gorgeous day in Delaware. The night is even more stellar -- a clear sky, crisp air and a beautiful sliver of moon. I am so grateful for this beautiful world! And I'm grateful for friends who show me things that I'd never look at twice if there wasn't a picture of them on the Xanga post. Thanks, dear friend. I always enjoy your pictures.
@SewWorthIt - The older I get the more I appreciate 'old' things! LOL
@dingdongdingbat - Thanks for your comment!
@Buckeyegirlie - Thank you BEG for your sweet comment. Lovely day here the sky has been so beautiful!
Oohh very nice. It was about 60 today, it's 43 now.
well on Thanksgiving day we tried to take photos outside and we were looking for the sun
We had a partly sunny day with a chill wind and 45 - it was cold enough for a winter coat but warm enough that I didn't need a hat to go from the parking lot into the dentist's office...
So you are free to go everywhere . But Is not a litlle sad to see all of those settlements abandonned where life has disappeared ? But there is also the romantic charm and the whisper of the history.
Love
Michel.
Great photo of that little pump. It cold and foggy here and sunny and cold during the day. 26 degrees tonight.
@oxlorixo - Almost a 20 degree difference in one day. Sounds like Iowa LOL.
@murisopsis - Going to the dentist makes me sweat so even in January I seldom need my coat when I have that appointment LO. I've not yet needed my winter coat but I'm sure as time passes I'll get good use of it. Thanks for your comment.
@Babyboomerjill - Thanks for the comment.
@fauquet - Thank you for your comment. Yes, I can get out and about and enjoy my spare time. I agree with you there is a mystery to these once busy, well cared for places that are now abandoned and in disrepair.
@Grannys_Place - It is 22 here this early morning and snow is forecast for the weekend in some parts of Iowa. Glad you like my little pump. Fritz found it on a farm he bought and he brought it home to me for my garden area several years ago.
Neat old pump, like your photo...glad you laughed out loud at the Friday Funnies...blessings to you today...Mike
A winter storm is bringing us needed rain. A bit chilly, too.
