  • Mundane? You betcha', just as we like it

    Having nothing new to say nor the time for a new post Lucy will update  a Springtime 2009 post. That makes this a double dose of mundane. I hope it is not an overdose of mundane since there is no known cure for that.

    Having nothing to say has never kept Little Lucy quiet.  To keep this from being too mundane I will place my entry in numerical order, thus making it a touch more than the ordinary. I could use Roman numerals to make this post  really extraordinary but can not remember them.

    #1  There has also been comparison of Facebook to Xanga. Xanga is my choice, my #1 favorite for many reasons.

    a: It is my 1st love, my 1st blogging discovery

    b: It has brought my family into closer contact than we had before, a  sweet closeness I cherish

    c: Xanga let's you be as fancy,creative or mundane as you choose to be

    d: There is no big deal on Xanga made of adding "friends" Come on, how can anyone have 997 "friends". Xanga  sorta' has this feature but I never check it. The adding of "friends" on Facebook or the deleting of "friends" can say far more than you may like it to say. Giving way too  much power and control to others.

    e: I like Xanga because I spent $100 for a lifetime of it's use and can post unlimited pictures. I do not know whose "lifetime" I paid for, Xanga or mine but I want to protect my investment and stay with Xanga.

    f: I like Facebook because I can play online Scrabble in real time with a few chosen people who if they do not begin to let me win a game or 2 will lose this "friend" LOL

    g: Facebook is great to see pictures posted by my Xanga friends. The pictures are all easy to access and I do very much like to see how that Dori is growing and to wish a friend's dog Happy Birthday, sweet keeping in touch this way. A short and sweet way but not as nice as Xanga.

    #2:Here is our Oreck air purifier. It needs to be cleaned as you may be able to tell.

    spring time hike 043

    We believe it is very nice. Some of you may recall the constant sore throat I had for well over a year. No reason for it was diagnosed. Possibly was GERDS. Maybe more likely there were  pollutants in the air. Shortly after buying this air purifier my constant sore throat stopped hurting. It also freshens the air so the house smells nice. The filters inside and the outside case have to be cleaned periodically. It has cut down on the dusting I have to do.....except for cleaning the purifier....

    #3:Lucy has exchanged her winter boots for her summer hiking boots

    spring time hike 040

    The calories expended on these hour or 2 hour hikes are rapidly replaced by a ravishing appetite. Fritz will not allow Lucy to pack a lunch so she is tempted to try these mushrooms raw

    spring time hike 042

    but she didn't. Note that now Lucy and Fritz carry plastic bags when on their hike. This bag was 1/2 filled at the end of the hike.

    #4: We try to visit the beaver pond often to check on the progress of the dams they make

    spring time hike 030

    spring time hike 029

    spring time hike 013

    spring time hike 014

    These beaver we never actually see must be, well, "busy as beavers" as they say.

    #5: The Canadian geese are back and nesting near a pond we pass.

    spring time hike 002

    None too happy to see us either.

    #6 The hills are alive with green or is it music? I guess the sound of honking geese, the spring peepers, the birds, the splashing of frogs back into the water and the song of Bella's baying  is indeed music to us.

    spring time hike 020

    spring time hike 027

    The actual land owner of this hill brush cuts open areas through the trees and brush making ideal walking paths for us and areas for his sons' to 4 wheel  on.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    #7: Granted Fritz and Lucy are easily amused. Just how easily amused are we?
    spring time hike 025
    Fritz grabbed a camera when we saw Bella keeping Polly in a tree for an hour or so.Note the thumb, nice touch!  Do you see Polly way up there? Bella is also easily amused as is Polly since they are actually good friends and sleep together at night.
    ~~~~~~~~~

    You see even when Little Lucy has nothing to say she doesn't remain silent. What you might consider mundane may be quite interesting to others as we like to peek into your little corners of the world. If nothing else posting this kept me amused for a while.

  • I agree with you concerning Xanga and Facebook.  I love the creativity afforded by Xanga, but check Facebook to see what those friends are doing.

  • Oh Lucy you have inspired me again to get on the stick with my Xanga Posts. I do love peeking into the little corners of other peoples lives. Life is good and I love seeing that in others. I love reading biographies and autobiographies. This past week I started reading a new book from our church library. "The Secret Holocaust Diaries" The untold story of Nonna Bannister. It has kept me spell bound. This morning I read about an hour on my front porch swing. (1st this year) So far I almost half through with the book and it's Nonna's memories before the war and she goes into detail about her wonderful child hood memories. I know I'll soon be reading about the horrible memories of her war experiences. By reading the cover I know she is the only survivor of her family. I'd better get back to work now. Great checking in with you.
    I to LOVE checking in on facebook and seeing new pictures of Dorie. Sweet little munckin! ~Polly~

  • @PollythePatchworker -

    Polly that sounds like my kind of a book. We should never forget that part of history. To forget it is to risk repeating it.

  • I wish my "mundane " was as pretty as yours ! I don't take enough exercise even though the park is close by ( half a minute away }  but if I lived in such a gorgeous place as you do I'm sure I'd be out every day. I spend way too much time on Xanga, which I love, so can't get involved with Facebook Marie

  • I really enjoyed this blog. re: Facebook and Xanga. I like Facebook for quick comments and news, but the writer in me prefers Xanga.

  • I loved this post!  You have given me a little kick in my mundane!

    As for the Xanga Facebook debate, I have been holding out from Facebook....on the principle of the thing!  I came to Xanga because my daughter and some young friends who live far away were here...and I have been very glad I did!  But slowly, everyone seemed to drift away from Xanga to Facebook.  When they clamored for me to get Facebook, I turned a deaf ear (Which isn't too hard to do...my right ear gets more deaf every year!).  But when some of my dear "older" friends all got on Facebook, I must admit, my "principles" didn't look that strong!  I should be doing both!!!

    As for my mundane little life...I think I am getting back into the mood to post on Xanga...and make new friends!  (I'm going to have to...by not posting I have lost a ton of my old ones!)

    Thanks Lucy, you're the best!
    Beth

  • Facebook is too full of surprises for my taste! I have lived too many places and have had old friends drop out of the past with all the emotional baggage attached to it. Maybe I'm no fun!  I have friends who live by it and I just can't get in the groove!  Nothing mundane about Lucy! I'll share the link to Goobmom's farmer's market post from this weekend. http://goobmom23.blogspot.com/  Mushrooms $20/pound! I have not seen a mushroom that big before but Tate says his coworker harvests mushrooms that big all the time. Tate is on the hunt this morning! Wish him luck!

  • I'm in total agreement in your analysis of Xanga vs Facebook...though I would add that FB has been great to find old friends....not as in octogenarians, but as in those who knew you when you were young!

    Gone are the winter boots - bring on the hikers! I'm expecting more and more photos from you, my outdoor friend!

  • Regarding Facebook and Xanga: I like facebook for being able to link to people but I like xanga for blogging.  There is a publishing link on xanga so that everything I blog can be posted to my wall.  I did find it amazing that after only a couple of days on facebook, I had connected to two people from my high school class.

    I love those mushrooms!  It seems like forever since I have had those mushrooms.  I think they can be found in Kentucy but I just don't hear of people going out searching for them.

  • Nothing mundane about you, my dear.  You have a flare for making the most ordinary extraordinary.  Keep it up!!!!!  I love to read your blogs!

  • the mushrooms look scrummy!!!  i miss that about Iowa!

  • I didn't find this mundane at all. You mushroom on your hikes? how cool! Are they morels? How do you cook them?

  • @distractedbyzombies - Thanks for your nice comment. I slice the morels and wash then and then soak overnight in salt water, because my mom always did that, I really do not know why. Dry them off, dip in beaten eggs, roll in flour,the mushrooms not myself, and fry in very hot vegetable oil....oh my so good! May and early June in Iowa if the weather has been within 'normal' is the time to look for them. Actually we often just look down on our path and there some are other times we see none at all although we've searched.

  • @Lucy_or_Ethel - the mushrooms, not yourself. hahaha! That does sound good. hmmm, I've heard something about morels needing special prep to be edible, that must be where the soaking comes in. :)

  • I just went through my friend's list and noticed that som e I didn't even know. lol

    I like mandane,too.

  • Your *e* made me laugh~ too funny. I agree, one of the best $100 I ever spent! :)

  • Xanga is where we make strong friendships even if we never meet. Facebook is for fast comments. I love all the Xangans we have been privileged to meet in real live and on line.

  • I prefer Xanga too.   The relationships seem closer than on Facebook.  Thanks for all the things you write about. I for one enjoy them!

  • @Babyboomerjill - Isn't there a saying, 'friends are just strangers you have yet to meet'? Or is it 'friends are those strangers...or something like that LOL.

  • @WildWomanOfTheWest - Thank you for the mini! And for the comment.

  • @TheSunnyC - So do I, and it so very nice to have these friends.

  • @SewWorthIt - Thank you very much I enjoy your site also.

  • Perhaps a repost for others but a "first" for me! (and a nice post it is!)

  • Mundane, repeats. creative etc I always love your posts.

  • @murisopsis - Thank you my friend.
