Hello There!
On a recent hike I stopped by to see the horses.
What a joy it is to see them. It was a chilly morning with the hoar frost on the grass and bushes. This one was hesitant to approach me so I zoomed in on her as she watched the others running to me.
This pretty girl is usually the 1st to gallop to the fence and let me pet her velvet nose.
This is a shot of an eagle that you'll have to take my word for. It is an eagle really. By the time I got my camera out it was almost out of my camera's view.
It was a lovely day for a hike and I was very happy I had my insulated coveralls on.
Have a nice weekend.

I love the sky line in the last shot - with or without the eagle. I do believe it is an eagle... wish I could see them in IN but they are still rare here.
wow - what a beautiful hike, and countryside to hike through. you should bring the horses carrots or apples. : )
Nice pictures. Thanks for sharing !
@murisopsis - Iowa has an increasing eagle population. We are located near a river and they seem to like nesting high on the hill facing the river. Thanks for the comment.
@plantinthewindow - I always think of it too late to stash apples or carrots for them in my pocket. It is lovely in this area, we certainly enjoy it.Nice comment thanks.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - Thanks for the comment.
@Lucy_or_Ethel - It would be neat to see more photos of the old structures you've photographed, with the frost and snow on them. hint. hint.
Nice pictures. I does look like a lovely walk.
very nice!!
I really enjoy the pictures of your hikes. It must always be such a pleasure to see such amazing things.
@C_L_O_G - We try to hike an hour every day and it is such fun. Thanks for the comment.
@Tempguestbrief - @oxlorixo -
thank you for your sweet comments.
@Lucy_or_Ethel - An hour hike each day sounds nice. I should do that too.
Thanks for recommending me.
I love horses and miss being around them. Someday I'm just gonna have to pull the car over and visit the ones I see by the side of the road. Have a great night.
Looks like beautifully crisp hiking weather!
What a beautiful place to go walk and love the horses.

Thanks for the comments. These horses belong to our neighbor so we get the fun of seeing them without having to buy the feed. This works best for us. At one time we had a couple of horses here for the kids, the worse kind of horses, Shetland ponies! They were evil and mean to the kids and to me. Only when Fritz was around would they not bite and stomp on our feet oh and they also liked to go under and near trees and bushes and sweep the kids off their backs. Very evil horses LOL. So neighbor's horses are our favorite!
@C_L_O_G - there are some days we shorten our hikes to 30 minutes or we miss a day but as a rule we are dedicated and it is wonderful. Our Miss Bella Beautiful Beagle now has the pattern down pat and when she sees both of us coming out the door and getting our walking sticks she high tails it ahead of us up the hill and through the woods. We soon hear her baying as she goes after rabbits.(seldom actually getting one)
@Lucy_or_Ethel - When I was younger I spent some nice Saturdays with my grandfather. He had a pack of beagles (his hunting dogs) and we would take them out and listen to them baying at the rabbits. He never killed any rabbits. It was all about walking in the woods and listening to the dogs run.
@C_L_O_G - Nice memories. I know what you mean about listening to the beagles. We do not hunt either. We leave that to Bella. When we first adopted Bella nearly 5 years ago she'd bring various victims to our yard but any more we seldom see any evidence of her captures. Once she brought us a tiny new born fawn. That was really sad, but Bella does what beagles do. We nearly always laugh when we hear her on the hill baying. She really would enjoy a companion beagle but she has settled for one of our cats as her friend. They play and sleep together. You have a sweet memory of time with your grandfather and the beagles.
Winter hikes are just the BEST, aren't they?!
@AmericanJanet - We enjoy them so much!
Nice hike with insulated coveralls yet! Nice photos too!
