  • Christmas cards and other things to do

Christmas is how many days away? Too close that's for sure. I've sent out 4 Christmas cards, that is FOUR from a list of over 50. I blame the great mild weather we've had here in Iowa, it just doesn't 'feel' like Christmas. So I think this calls for a hike instead of being cooped up inside. Bad weather is forecast for this area tomorrow. Maybe snow, then maybe I will feel in the mood for working on my Christmas card list and not in the mood for a hike.

Decorating myself for Christmas is all the decorating I've done so far.

What puts you in the Christmas spirit?

  • Christmas music used to do it. I'm not sure what it takes right now... love your decorated photo though! :) I have sent out 0/80!!!! so sad, maybe I'll get around to new years cards or something. *sigh*

  • I always plan to have a luncheon for my lady friends before Christmas. This year I  decided to have  a coffee hour for anyone who wants to attend from the aerobic class I attend.  I think I will have about 10 here on Wednesday for coffee after class.   That really forces me to get everything decorated and do some baking.  I really need that incentive to get going.  Many of my friends are widowed or just don't bother with much decorating.  They really seem to enjoy seeing the house aglitter for Christmas.  I might add it is getting to be more of chore every year but I refuse to give up!!

  • That is a really cute picture...you decorate very well..

  • you are so cute! that's all that matters!

I think I sent out 11 cards? but some I just handed to people

you are really behind! save the cards for next year. lol

  • I am sending cards out as they come in. Terrible of me I know. I did hand out some at church and to friends. No Christmas letter this year. Just nothing but sickness and deaths to tell about for the most part. Maybe I'll do a new year's letter?

  • I'm behind here, too. I just haven't felt much in the mood for anything. We got the tree up Sunday. My kids did that. I haven't sent out any cards yet. Haven't bought much at all. The kids have to have gifts, so I will go pick up their gifts later this week. I really have no desire to celebrate at all.

  • I addressed all my cards tonight and they go out tomorrow! Yipee! I am counting down and I have just a few gifts left to wrap...

  • @Tempguestbrief - Last year I simply designed a New Year's letter and after Christmas sent copies out to everyone on my card list. That worked well but this year I need new ink for the printer and have to actually get out and about and travel a little to get the kind of ink I need*excuse* so no letter...no cards...no excuse, besides I'd rather hike LOL

  • @dingdongdingbat - What a nice tradition! I'm sure it it is the high point of the holiday season for your guests. Enjoy!

  • @Babyboomerjill - Thanks for your comment and your advice. Here's what will happen: If I do not send any cards then in a matter of time I shall not receive any cards and I dearly enjoy the cards and especially the pictures so I shall get with it and get some sent out today. Merry Christmas Jill.

  • @TheSunnyC - New Year's letters are a good idea, short and sweet since there is not much yet to say about the new year LOL.

  • @murisopsis - I feel a wave of envy attacking me! Good for you, you are on top of things! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  • @SealedbyGrace - Maybe the Christmas spirit will grab you as time passes. Happy children make it a Merry Christmas!

  • My cards went in the mail yesterday...whew! Your festive hat is cute!

  • That pcture of you. I'm not sending out any cards this year. I can conveniently blame it on my stroke. I do need to e-mail a few people though.

  • @AmericanJanet - Thanks for your comment. Good for you for getting your cards out.Merry Christmas!

  • @ata_grandma - You have a good excuse, take care and Merry Christmas! May this New Year bring you renewed health.

  • @Lucy_or_Ethel - that is so true. lol I didn't think of that. I have a bunch of cards and photos on my large print in the living room  I stick them in the large frame like Mrs. Palmer used to do.

I guess the dozen I sent are to the ones I really love the best and other people are just friends

  • @Babyboomerjill - I am taking a break from my cards to check out Xanga and FB. I am really enjoying doing this as I sip my coffee and listen to the Christmas music. You know getting these cards each year is real blessing isn't it? we're getting a misty dampness from the snow that hit farther south of us so it is a delight to have this time to get my cards ready to mail. Merry Christmas Jill! You'll enjoy seeing Reece's excitement won't you!

  • the church's childrens service and the elementary schools christmas program...and I missed the school's program this year...I think I've been hit by the grinch bug this year :/

  • @mlbncsga - Hard to beat those Christmas programs with the little ones. The Grinch Bug travels quickly and can stay quite a spell, he is passing through here now LOL

  • It seems like a lot of us just aren't in the mood for the Christmas season.  Mine are health related, but still isn't any excuse.  Did get all my cards mailed last week, No Christmas tree again this year, BUT I have decorated with other things......My nativity, the Santas, the Madonna, Sleighs, Bears, a Swedish candle thing, 3 wreaths and Nutcrackers.   Ok, it looks like Christmas, but the zip and excitment and enthusiasm just aren't there.  Maybe it is because there is so much unrest in our country/government and the world.  So hubby and I will be keeping company with a nice pork roast and 2 pumpkin pies.  His family lives in the east and most of mine in this area are no longer living.       Quite time is nice too.

Yes, you decorate very nice in your stylish hat.  Merry Christmas.

  • Well now you look mighty festive in that santa hat. I am still trying to get into the Christmas spirit.

  • @thistlepatch - I agree it is different this year for whatever reason. I do hope you have a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas.

  • @Grannys_Place - Thank you for the comment. I hope you folks have a nice Christmas and a healthy New Year!

  • I would have to say family puts me in the Christmas spirit. I love the music of Christmas too. I get complaints all the time and someone shuts my music off when I leave the room, etc. May God bless you with a Happy holiday season and a Christmas joy that will stay with you till next Christmas.

  • @mcbery - Yes family is so important especially in celebration times. Thank you for your sweet comment and blessing.

  • BTW - I'm not done with my cards either. I want to finish today. I hope. I looked for a Christmas mini. Maybe there isn't one? I'll give you a cookie instead. I guess Xanga is politically correct!?

  • @mcbery - Thank you for the mini!I'm mailing out my last few cards today!

  • You are so beautiful! And you look festively Christmasy joyful!

Music...snow...friends...cold weather...fireplace...and so much more...put me in the Christmas spirit!
