Perhaps we could put this on billboards throughout the country! Much needed message, indeed.
Good list! The first one is so true. We need to treat people fairly but life doesn’t. Those who want to make it same for everyone get our country in a whole lot of trouble. Not everyone is the same or works the same so why would everyone get the same results? Godliness with contentment is great gain. Hope your week is wonderful. Looks white outside this morning.
@mcbery - No snow here, hurrah! 22 degrees and windy is enough! Thanks for your comment.
These are good!
My feelings exactly!
@C_L_O_G - @ColeenSr - Methinks it would be a better America if the majority agreed with this. Thank you for your comments.
Great list,! We grew up with that list in the as did mos t of America. W hat has hAs happened?
This is so on target. I feel sorry for the poor kids who have never been allowed to fail when they hit the real world. I’m seeing a lot of it in our company with the students we hire. Many of them are entirely clueless in the ways of the world and their parents are trying to come to their rescue even at work.
@Dominie - I would love to answer that Dominie but once I get on my soap box it is difficult for me to stop and I go into a rant LOL. Thanks for your comment.
@Dominie - btw Dominie what do you think has happened in America to cause this sad state?@tsh44 - Thanks for your comment.Any ideas on what has happened to America?
Rules to live by!
@Lucy_or_Ethel - OK preparing to duck and cover, but, I think a huge part of it is that the parents are cowardly. That’s right I’m sort of blaming the parents. They seem to me to be afraid to face the pain involved for themselves if they allow their kids to deal with rough stuff. Afraid to face the truth that their spawn aren’t perfect. Afraid to do the hard side of parenting. Afraid to invest the time, energy and effort requred to raise accountable kids. Not writing a blog here sooo. I think you get the direction of my thoughts on this?
@tsh44 - I appreciate your “duck and cover” LOL no threat from me since I agree 100% and add broken homes with guilt ridden parents to the mix with an added helping of working mothers with no time for the home added to this, the list could go on and on. thank you so much for your comments.
@AmericanJanet - Indeed Janet, indeed! Thanks for your comment.
@Lucy_or_Ethel - One of my many jobs is to manage all children/youth programs at our club. Without exception every staffer I have says that the worst part of the job is dealing with the parents and the only reason they’d consider quitting their job is the incredible pain of dealing with the parents.
@tsh44 - I have 2 sisters who taught school and I worked in a day care, yes I agree about parents. One year I was fortunate to attend a convention where noted advice columnist Ann Landers was the keynote speaker. This was way back in the 1980′s. She said when she is asked why kids are different today she responds with “parents are different today”. She would shudder today if she knew how much parents and children have changed since the 1980′s.
Wish I knew how to share this.
yes, I think they need a reality check but didn’t we when we were young ,too.
my nephew was telling me that he would be getting a mercedes but his would be white when I took him to McDonald’s after school. He is failing in 8th grade and he’s 14yr old. Sister Mo and I took him to work with us this summer at the antique mall and he was taught to open the door for anyone older then him; help the other dealers and customers and we paid him $5 an hour; after the 4 hours shift he would say,”that was fun.”
We can only hope that he will be a good person in life.
Amen!

@Babyboomerjill - The optimism of youth sometimes keeps their head in the clouds if they are not grounded in reality and a good work ethic. We had parents and teachers who kept us pretty well grounded in reality and praised when praise was earned, who cared more about our character than our feelings and egos. But yes I do admire the bravado of youth. I like the phrase,”back when we thought we were 8 feet tall, bullet proof and golden”,life has a way of showing us we are not 8 feet tall, bullet proof or even golden except in the eyes of our Grandmothers maybe LOL.

LOVE THIS!!! “Any ideas on what has happened to America?” you say? My son commented just a few days ago, that future genealogists would have ahelluva time trying to figure out who belonged to whom….Many ‘women’ of today, don’t even KNOW who the father is, of their child….children. People see nothing wrong, any more, of having babies out of wedlock, so the children have no stable home life. The adults can split at any time, and the kids are left with no mom and dad in the same house to care about them. Many married couples duck out at the first argument, rather than try to make a go of it because they love their children.
We see adults trying to make things easier for the kids, if they make a mistake. Kids need desperately to, at an early age, learn the consequences of their actions. O.K. I ain’t done, but these are things that gripe my soul!!! I think T.V. has made a lot of these conditions look acceptable, and sadly, it looks as if there’s no turning back.
Excellent rules! These should be shared in elementary schools and upward! And adults need to be reminded of these as well!
His #11 made me smile really big! HUGS!
@AdamsWomanFell - You gotta’ love the guy who thinks like this and has been such a success so he speaks with experience. Thanks for the comment.
@GrannyHummingbird - Television seemed to be the opening of the flood gates in so many ways. Suddenly dinner time included the TV blaring programs, even the good ol’ I Love Lucy shows kept Mom and Dad from carrying on a conversation with the family etc Add the no fault divorce implementation, the government replacing the man in the house, abortion, the birth control pill on, liberal churches where anything goes, on and on it goes but more importantly the importance of faith in God and respecting Godly principles………possibly we’ve gone too far to turn back but I do think II Chronicles 7:14 may be the answer.
Good post Nancy!
@andreas_d - Thank you Andreas. I wish you good health through out this new year.
Great list. All students in school should memorize and learn these.
I love it!
I have read and posted this on my Xanga too. But it is always worth reading over again. Thanks!
Brilliant!!!I should copy this and put onto my fridge for all to see!
Did you see the television show, last night, about the value of farm land in Iowa? The most I’ve heard it go for, around here was about $10,500.00 per acre. They sold some there, at auction for over 13 thousand!!
@GrannyHummingbird - Surely not farm land selling for that? Maybe for development of housing or shopping center? No way farm land at that price could ever pay for it’s self!
Yup…..said they would be farming it. And I know what you mean about paying for itself!! Two brothers bought it. Said they owned 1500, themselves and farmed over 5,000 acres. What does land in YOUR area sell for? Wouldn’t you just LOVE to buy some for that amount, then have the bottom fall out, and you could never sell it for as much as you paid!?!?!?? I cannot believe these grain markets are going to stay as high as they are right now.
@GrannyHummingbird - The highest land we know of that sold recently was near $5,000 an acre for farm land and nearly that for wooded hilly hunting ground. We keep saying this cannot last but the prices just keep rising. We have buyers from out east that find this land to be appealingly cheap and the Amish from out east buy much of our land.
Very good post. I do agree 100%.
Hope you got your computer fixed. My daughter fixed mine last night. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it is virus free.
@dingdongdingbat - Virus free thanks to a grandson! Just hope it stays that way!
