  • An Email I Received From A Relative

    I blotted out the names of the senders of this. The 1st paragraph was written by a relative of mine and I have heard this account of gaining US citizenship before. I will not print any names.

    Good letter, *****

    This is ****** adding one more thing to this "letter".  If you came to America in the 1960's like my husband and his whole family did (from Finland) you had to have a "sponsor:,,,,,,someone who would GUARANTEE that you would be employed and not go on Welfare!  My husband is an legal citizen...having to go take the test when I was pregnant and sick as a dog!!!   (and nobody translated English to Swedish for them either)  Nobody printed ballots in Swedish, Finnish, German, French .... I could go on forever.  But now we're paying for printing all these ballots, etc. in every dialect!!!   How things change in 40 years and not for the better!
     ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER-New Immigrants
    This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points....
    For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions.. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper..................

    From:
    **********
    My wife, ****** wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

    Dear Editor:
    So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants.********* ***** for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

    Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. ****** why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
    there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

    They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

    Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None
    of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people.

    When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

    And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
    entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
    Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

    And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

  • Not Happy

    Not happy! As soon as she was out of her tub and escaped my clutches she rolled in the dusty gravel drive way

    But at least she smelled better for the family visiting here for the family reunion.

      Many pictures were taken at the family reunion last week. No time to even down load them from my cameras. Busy busy fun time for our family. Much good food, much visiting and a grand time. The weather favored us with no rain and no real oppressive heat, everyone had a good time. We had our main meal on the beach so the kidlets could swim and the fishermen of the family could fish. My AZ sister and her son and granddaughter remained a couple of days after the actual reunion and we enjoyed a nice time together.
    ~~~~~
    We've been extremely busy with little time to make a good Xanga post or to visit all the sites I usually comment on but life is good here.
    Sad to hear of the droughts and the floodings in other areas of the country. Parts of Iowa are still under flood water. Fritzie is helping Boy Genius with his haying. Trying to work around the weather reports of rain. Right in this area things are doing well, for now that is. Hopefully you are well and having a good summer..
  • Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer?
    What became of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer? So far only the 'crazy' applies to our days! Busy happy days with little or no time for the 'lazy' days. Our family reunion is scheduled for this weekend. My sister is flying in from Arizona today with her son and a granddaughter. Hurrah maybe now our jolly little cottage can see some lazy days as we celebrate our family time. This is my side of the house, I have 4 siblings who each have families. Some camp at the park, others not so hardy stay at motels. Today the sky is hazy so that is a good sign for lazy to follow.
    Grandson Jake turned 19 and we celebrated, shown here with Sam one of our other grandsons. The gator arrived that day so it made a grand gift on Jake's special day.
    The spud gun with 4 of our 5 grandsons
    The 4th of July parade included #2 son of Boy Genius with a girl on the tractor( each year a different girl asks to ride with him).
    A busy fun summer for us. How has your summer been?
  • TRADITIONS TO CHERISH
     The older 2 are in college now and the little fellow riding in the wagon is 18 now and a senior in high school. In 1997 they had a little brother who has joined them in being in the parade. Times change but one thing remains the same, we love this 4th of July celebration. Each year we gather at a tiny town on the Missouri border that has a population of less than 100.We are joined by several hundred others who like the old time traditions of a small town 4th of July celebration.We honor the flag and hear the Star Spangled Banner,we applaud the parade,we lounge around in our lawn chairs sipping lemonade and getting our lunch from the 4H food stand. We hoot and holler for our favorites in the talent contest, we watch and cheer on the games, foot races and competitions.We visit with people we only see once a year here. Low key fun time for us. Each year our grandson's are in the parade just as their mother has been since she was a child. Now the boys drive tractors, motor cycles, antique cars or ride on floats. Our son the father of these boys has also been in each parade for over 25 years, all since he fell in love with the girl who become his wife. With that Fritz and I also developed this tradition of attending the 4th of July celebration for the last 25 years or so.
    Boy Genius often drives his restored pickup in the parade.  Sometimes Wife of Boy Genius joins him sometimes she is on the church float.
    Life is good in our little corner of the big wide world and I hope it is good where you are.
    God Bless America!
  • Look Out From Above..........
    My early morning coffee enjoyed while setting in my porch swing was annoyingly difficult while being attacked by birds. Yikes! Realizing they were swallows alarmed me. This could mean only one thing. the beginning of their nest building.
    Not only above the swing but on one of the sunshades also.
    Yikes and so messy! As my cup of coffee grew cold I dragged the high pressure garden hose to the porch and spent 45 minutes washing down and cleaning the mess up. While at it I sprayed and cleaned the deck furniture which needed to be done anyway.
    All done with that little chore and methinks I need to put a cat in a patio chair for her nap today, that will keep the swallows away at least for today.
    ~~~~~~
    Very hot and humid here in Iowa today and we have for the 1st time this season turned on the a/c. We usually wait until our misery level is at 100%  before we turn it on. But this year we gave in faster than usual. since I am expecting guests later today and want them to be comfortable.
    Have a good day and stay cool if you can!

  • I'm Coming Out, I Now Confess My Identity Was False

    Since Xanga's Texastidbits confessed he is not really a neon Route 66 sign I thought it was about time I confessed I am not really   nor am I or a combination of the 2. Since true identities seems to be in question on Xanga let me introduce myself Hello I am Nancy.

  • "Be yourself” is about the worst advice you can give some people.

    This is one of my favorite quotes right up there with "the only good quality some people have is that they never re-produced". I enjoy quotes especially ones I deem as humorous. Do you have a favorite quote you'd like to share on Xanga?

    When we were younger it used to amuse and puzzle us to see older couples so very devoted to their pets. Now that Fritz and I are an older couple and with an empty nest, it seems perfectly normal to make a video of our Bella Beautiful Beagle. Although this clip does not actually show much of Bella it might amuse other pet owners especially if you are acquainted with Beagles.

  • One of the many blooms on a yellow rose bush we earlier thought had died. It is loaded with blooms. I am so pleased now to have 2 yellow rose bushes.
    What a joy to see that bright spot of  yellow to catch my eye.

    #4 son of Boy Genius testing for his 5th degree rank on his brown belt. Next will be the temporary black belt

    On this shot he had broken the 2 boards by his hand  and then swings around to break 2 more with his foot. The black belt is one of his brothers to the right holding the broken boards
    Paul had just split with his hand. Paul is 14, the youngest of the family of 4 boys.

    Are we proud of him and his brothers? What do you think? LOL
